Flying into Venice

Venice is one of the main airport hubs in Italy and is very easy to reach:

Overseas. Direct flights from the following cities:

Atlanta, New York JFK, Newark, Chicago, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Montreal, Toronto, the UAE.

From Europe.

There are direct flights to Venice from most european cities with major airlines.

Low cost airlines:

To Venice airport: EasyJet, Eurowings, Norwegian, Volotea, Vueling

To Treviso airport (35-min bus ride from Venice): Ryanair, Wizz Air

 

Reaching San Servolo from the airport

Once at the airport there are two options to reach the Island of San Servolo from the airport: you may procced directly over water or reach the Car Terminal of the Historic city first, and then proceed over water.

1. Directly over water.

In this case you have two choices.

a. Waterbus

From the airport you may take the Blue Line of the water shuttle called Alilaguna.

The cost is around € 15 per person and you will disembark at San Zaccaria after a 75-min ride. From the very same dock you will take the city waterbus number 20, which is the regular city waterbus to San Servolo for the last, short 8-min ride.

b. Private water taxis from the airport direct to San Servolo

Water-taxis offer service from Venice Marco Polo Airport to San Servolo. Taxis may be found directly at the airport water docks or booked before arriving from one of the many services available online. It is not inexpensive, but one water taxi may carry up to 10 people.

2. Reaching the Car Terminal (Piazzale Roma)

From the airport you can take the bus or a taxi to the Car Terminal (Piazzale Roma) and then proceed as indicated below “Arriving by Train”: Piazzale Roma is adjacent to the Railway Station.


Arriving by Train

Fast, bullet trains travel direct to Venice from most Italian cities and from Basel, Geneva, Munich, Vienna, Zurich.

From Venice railway station take waterbus number 2 to S.Marco-S.Zaccaria and from the same dock you will connect to waterbus number 20 direct to San Servolo, the venue. Total travel time is around 60-70 min depending on the connection.

From the same location you may also take a watertaxi direct to San Servolo that carries up to 10 people: the cost is around € 90.

It is expected that attendees arrive in San Servolo and check-in on the day of the beginning of the Advanced Course after 1:00 pm and depart/check out the morning of the last day of the Advanced Course. If you wish to stay longer, you must reserve a hotel elsewhere independently: rooms on the academic facility of the Island will be available only during the actual days of your Advanced Course. Personnel at the NSAS is unable to assist with hotel reservations in Venice or elsewhere.
